Playlists – Global Opportunities

& Global Income Opportunities

These Playlists aim to offer real Global Diversification of Opportunities

Guided by

Global portfolios that tick multiple boxes

Capital at risk. The value of investments and the income from them can fall as well as rise and are not guaranteed. Investors may not get back the amount originally invested.

Our Global Opportunities Playlists invest across the investment landscape and include a wide range of asset types across the globe. At any one time, these playlists may hold a mix of equities, bonds, commodities and cash. This mix changes as new opportunities appear.

This style of investing, known as multi-asset, provides a greater degree of diversification than investing in a single asset class. Diversifying investments is a fundamental rule of portfolio management and plays an important role in helping to reduce risk. It is not simply mixing stocks and bonds into a portfolio. It requires understanding how the types of stocks and bonds interact with each other. Potential benefits can include:

  • Mitigating Risk: Diversifying across different asset classes, industries and geographies can help reduce market correlations and help protect against market declines.
  • Better Returns: Investing across multiple asset classes, including equity, fixed income and alternatives, can help improve returns, while reducing the volatility of long-term returns.
  • Helping Achieve Investment Goals: Diversification provides the flexibility to interchange between liquid and income-generating assets over the short and long-term. Our Global Opportunities Investment Playlists are guided by BlackRock, one of the world’s largest asset managers.

So, what are Global Opportunities?

Global Opportunities are an active, wide collection of global investments that aim to offer the greatest opportunities to grow investors’ portfolios in the long term. As with all investments, values can both go up and down, and our Global Opportunity Playlists are considered medium risk.

The key to these Playlists is a deep understanding of the forces affecting global investing. Gather continuously watches, assesses and analyses global economic factors to identify opportunities to potentially help investors make money in the long run.

The constituent parts of these Playlists are not static. They change as new global market opportunities arise. Investors can check what’s in these Playlists, at any time, in their Gather dashboard.

Ultimately investing is always a ‘trade off’ – allocating investment into a country or asset class, means giving up or reducing your allocation in another one, with an accompanying change in risk. Knowing how and where to allocate investment risk, take profit and reduce losses across the globe is key to successful multi-asset investing.

BlackRock do the hard work, so our investors don’t need to. They address the key questions that every investor should answer before investing – where, what, when, how much and, ultimately, why.

Our Playlists aim to make investment choices simpler by helping with:

Where to invest

The best assets and countries to invest in changes over time and economic cycles.

What to invest in

Our Global Opportunities Playlists give investors the benefit of investing across a wide range of asset classes around the globe. The selection of investments guided by BlackRock can include different sizes of companies and types of bonds. All our Global Playlists are turn-key solutions for our investors and community.

When to invest

Global markets are forward looking and investing over a longer horizon has a better chance of achieving long-term goals. Our Global Opportunities Playlists benefit from the expertise of when to invest in certain asset classes and geographies.

How much to invest

How much to allocate, and in what region of the world, to stocks that will potentially grow versus more stable investments that can provide a cushion should the markets experience a tough patch?

Asset allocation is the process of spreading the investments within a portfolio across several different assets. The aim is to balance risk and reward according to the goals of the portfolio. We believe this is a much better approach than investing in individual companies, in the hope that they will outperform the market.

Our ready-made Global Opportunities Playlists use this approach and BlackRock’s experience to work out how best to divide your investments and risks.

Why

And finally, why? Why invest in our Global Opportunities Playlists? The answer is simple – to make the most of investing globally, investors need a lot of expertise, time and resources. The choices can be overwhelming for the experienced investor, never mind the recently initiated. Our Playlists mean investors can benefit with none of the sweat. In short, our Playlists aim to help investors make money and potentially achieve their long-term investing objectives through global diversification.

From launch, we will be offering two Global Opportunities Playlists

Global Opportunities

Both of our Global Opportunities Playlists use BlackRock ETFs aiming to offer a high degree of diversification and efficiency. This Playlist, however, is more focused on growth, and has a higher proportion of equities.

4 -Our risk scores are taken from the Key Investor Information Documents provided by BlackRock. Risk is measured on a scale of 1-7, with 1 being the lowest and 7 the highest. Each fund’s score is combined with the allocation it has in a given Playlist, to produce a weighted-average risk score. Scores are calculated incorporating simulated historical data and may not be a reliable indication of the future risk profile of the Share Class. The risk score shown is not guaranteed and may change over time. The lowest category does not mean risk free. Further educational information on risk is available from Investopedia

5 -The Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) scores for these Playlists are calculated using the scores shown by BlackRock. These scores are calculated by MSCI – a global provider of equity, fixed income, real estate indexes, multi-asset portfolio analysis tools, ESG and climate products. Each fund’s score is combined with the allocation it has in a given Playlist, to produce a weighted-average ESG score. Further educational information on ESG is available from Investopedia

6 – Board Independence is a corporate governance score which looks at the percentage of issuers of a fund that have an independent board of directors. This is calculated by MSCI – a global provider of analysis tools. Each fund’s score is combined with the allocation it has in a given Playlist, to produce a weighted-average Board Independence score. Further educational information on Board Independence is available from Investopedia

7 – Board Diversity is a corporate governance score which looks at the percentage of women on the board of directors of issuers of a fund. Further educational information on Board Independence is available from Investopedia

8 – The MSCI Weighted Average Carbon Intensity measures a fund’s exposure to carbon intensive companies. This figure represents the estimated greenhouse gas emissions per $1 million in sales across the fund’s holdings. This allows for comparisons between funds of different sizes. Further details of MSCI’s methodology can be found here.
